The ASU MSPO Program partners with accredited clinical sites locally and regionally to organize student experiences observing and assisting certified professionals in the field. Applicants are required to reach a minimum of 100 shadowing or work hours at prosthetics & orthotics clinics, and this learning experience continues throughout the program, with a sequence of courses devoted to exposure to patients in the clinical setting. Students will graduate from the program with approximately 400 additional hours of this type of experience. Access to a vehicle is required for the program, in order to visit a variety of clinical sites during the five semesters at ASU.

To prepare for safe participation in this aspect of the curriculum, students are required to meet specific medical preparations, including immunizations and safety training. For extended visits at some clinical sites, a background check may be required.
