Support for Local Schools
Through Science in Motion and the Alabama Digital Education Network, ASU goes beyond

National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture
Launched in 1997, this center of research and scholarship looks past historical
events to examine the political and socioeconomic factors that shaped Montgomery’s
pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement.

How We Live CommUniversity Values
Excellence was never meant for an exclusive few. As a student-centered public HBCU, we share our progress and resources to better our world on every level.
Historically Rooted
Going back to our origins, our founders, the Marion Nine, established an institution when none existed at the time to uplift Black Alabamians. Roughly a century later, Civil Rights activists, strategists and organizers with ties to our school demanded lasting change.
Built to Rise
We produce graduates who grow our state’s economy. Empower workers through convenient, flexible upskilling. Provide hands-on learning that mutually benefits our students and local sectors.
Increasing Educational Access
An easier transfer process. Unlocking the gate to high-paying industries. A shorter path to a bachelor’s degree. Achieving these goals starts with the support we provide. Our recent efforts include community college partnerships, dual enrollment, guidance for low-income and first-generation students, and initiatives like Alabama Alliance for Students with Disabilities in STEM, S-STEM and The Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program.
Our annual Buzz Run, a more recent tradition, sees the Montgomery community lace
up to raise funds for ASU’s Track & Field Team, Office of Student Life and Social
Work Department.
Game days turn into community celebrations: Our longstanding Turkey Day Classic
draws thousands — students, alumni and locals — for a parade before we face off against
the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers.
For the past 15 years, the ASUletide Celebration has brought joy to local families
nominated by the HandsOn River Region’s Christmas Clearinghouse.
For MLK Day, Black History Month and other convocation events, prominent scholars
and thought leaders convene on campus to discuss topics related to the history our
school and region share.
