ASU Physical Therapy PTCAS & Prerequisite Requirements

 

ASU PTCAS APPLICATION INFORMATION & REQUIREMENTS

To apply to Alabama State University’s Physical Therapy program, you must complete the following:

  1. A Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited Program
  2. Must meet the minimum G.P.A. requirements*
  3. Submit an application and upload the following required materials through the ASU PTCAS website portal at the website:  https://ptcas.liaisoncas.com/applicant-ux/#/login
    1. G.R.E. or MAT score **
    2. 40 Total Observation Hours***
    3. Three Letters of Recommendation****
    4. Official Transcripts

Application Important Information Dates

  • ASU PTCAS Website Opens June 17, 2024 for the 2024-2025 Admissions Cycle

  • Deadline to Apply is October 1, 2024 

  • All Application materials must be market COMPLETE in PTCAS no later than the October 1, 2024.   NO EXCEPTIONS
    •  It is highly recommended that you apply as soon as possible to ensure that your application is marked complete by PTCAS and to check PTCAS often to make sure that all required materials are received in PTCAS and verified.  Only applications that have been marked complete and verified by PTCAS will be reviewed by our Admissions Committee. 
    • Failure to submit application materials to PTCAS for completion and verification could result in an incomplete application and your application will not be considered/reviewed by the Admissions committee.

GPA Requirement*

  • Overall Undergraduate Cumulative: 3:0
  • Program-specific Prerequisite: 3.0

GRE or MAT Score Requirement**

  • The GRE or MAT will be waived for the 2024-2025 Admission cycle

Observation Hours***

  • 40 Total Hours of Observation must be verified and signed by a LICENSED Physical Therapist (make sure to upload forms in PTCAS)
    • Hours Must Be Complete by Application Deadline (NO EXCEPTIONS)
  • More than 1 Observation Setting is Required. 
    • It is strongly recommend applicants to observe at least 3 or more settings.
    • The following types of observation hours are accepted:
      • Paid:  Accepted/Considered
      • Volunteer:  Accepted/Considered
      • Inpatient:  Accepted/Considered
      • Outpatient:  Accepted/Considered 

 Letters of Recommendation****

  • Submit three letters of recommendations
    •  1 Letter of Recommendation must be from a Licensed Physical Therapist
    •  1  Letter of Recommendation must be from an instructor who can evaluate  your academic abilities and character.
    •  1 Letter of Recommendation can be from advisor or former employer  but ABSOLUTELY NO FAMILY MEMBERS!

Acceptance into the PT Program

  • Once you have completed the interview and received notification of your acceptance to the PT program, students will be instructed on HOW to apply to the ASU Graduate School AFTER they receive notification from the Physical Therapy Program.

Deposit Required: Yes

Deposit Amount Required for Accepted Applicants: $400.00 (NONREFUNDABLE)

PT program start date:  August of each academic year.

Maximum Number of Accepted Students:  24

Anticipated size of next entering class  24

Students interested in applying to our Physical Therapy program must complete all of the following prerequisite courses to be considered for admission to the program.  Once you have met all of the prerequisite requirements, please see the application information below on how to apply and submit required documents in our application portal.

**Anatomy and/or Physiology (A&P) course prerequisites MUST be completed in biology, neuroscience, anatomy, or integrated physiology department
