Make Room for What’s Next

Each transfer student arrives at Alabama State University with a unique story, whether they began at a community college, are returning after military service or a break or are seeking a supportive environment.

We guide students to labs where they develop future medical advances, foster creativity for success in business and the arts and prepare them to inspire learners through our teachers’ college legacy.

Empowering our community during their time as Hornets embodies the extraordinary strength of our founders in everything we do. We rally our community for game days, celebrate generations of accomplishments and make sure our transfer students pick up right where they left off.

Whether you’re an aspiring engineer or scientist, a teacher or business professional or an artist or health care leader, the legacy you’ve already started continues at ASU, experience by experience, connection by connection. Make room for your own greatness.

You’ll apply as a transfer student if you have completed a minimum of 15 college-level credits with a cumulative 2.0+ GPA. Students with at least 24 credits become eligible for transfer scholarships.

If you have up to 14 credits, you’ll apply as a freshman transfer student.

Once You’re Accepted

Here’s how Hornet Nation opens our arms and hearts to you:

Financial Aid

Applying for Aid

Transfer students submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®), too. Complete this document once you receive your offer of admission to qualify for scholarships, grants and more awards that lower our already-reasonable tuition rates.

Learn more about applying for aid.

Reviewing Your Award

Your financial aid award letter will be loaded to your HornetsWeb account. Your username for HornetsWeb is your student ID number (this number, starting with 200, is included in your acceptance letter).

If you have trouble logging into HornetsWeb, contact our Office of Technology at 334-229-4560.

Scholarships

ASU extends scholarships to transfer students who have attempted 24 hours or more of college-level courses with a 2.75 cumulative GPA or above, including for:

Air Force ROTC Scholarships

Full-time transfer students are eligible for ASU’s Air Force ROTC program. In preparation for U.S. Air Force and Space Force careers, participants strengthen their leadership skills while accessing additional scholarships and hands-on experiences. Explore our Air Force ROTC program.

Note: Submitting a scholarship application does not guarantee that a student will be awarded. Students who are awarded will be notified by letter. The University reserves the right to revise scholarship criteria as it deems appropriate. The scholarship award is based on the availability of funds.

Housing and Health Evaluation

By making ongoing upgrades, we ensure your well-being is fully supported wherever you go on campus. Explore residence life and all communities before you submit your housing application.

The housing reservation fee is $250. The online housing application opens each Spring.

In addition to housing, complete the ASU Health Center evaluation form once you confirm your spot.

Orientation

Pre-college orientation is required for all admitted transfer students with fewer than 60 transferable credits. Pre-college orientation should be scheduled before the beginning of each academic term. Following official notification of admissions, students will receive information from the Office of Student Affairs to schedule their orientation session.
