Alabama State University's traditional Black & Gold Football Game will be held Saturday, April 6, at 12:30 p.m. The game coincides with the University's High School Band Day. Both events will be held in the ASU Stadium.
The game will draw a hive of hundreds of Hornets fans, buzzing with anticipation of observing Coach Eddie Robinson, Jr., and the team that will take to the field when competitive action begins in the fall.
During the game, a Magic City Football Classic Giveaway will be held, with four lucky Season Ticket Holders winning a free weekend stay in Birmingham during the Classic, meals for two and two Magic City Classic game tickets. Winners must be present at the pre-season game on April 6 to receive their prizes.
BLACK & GOLD DAY INFO
Prior to the game, the ASU Fan Fest, sponsored by the Orange Blossom Classic, will start at 10 a.m. The Athletic Department is also sponsoring a free Tailgate Party from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. in the school's Tailgate Zone, which is located beside the baseball and softball fields. Fans may bring their RV's, tents and grills just as they do during the regular fall football season, but at no cost.
HIGH SCHOOL BAND DAY
ASU's nationally renowned band director, Dr. James Oliver, will host ASU's High School Band Day that brings caravans of high school band members to O' Mother Dear to perform with ASU's acclaimed Mighty Marching Hornets Band during the game.
"Over 500 high school band members will come to the Alabama State University campus from Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, South Carolina, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Alabama, and they are all from among the best high school bands to both march and play music. They, alongside our great ASU student-musicians, will make the game even more entertaining," Oliver said.
