Alabama State University students gathered in the Joe L. Reed Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, as Myles Wilson was formally inaugurated as the University's 73rd Student Government Association (SGA) president.
Wilson, a senior from Atlanta, Georgia, majoring in radio and television, takes on the role after establishing a strong record of leadership and student engagement across campus. His previous involvement includes serving as a Royal Court Escort for two consecutive years, an Associate Justice in the Student Government Association and a Hornet-to-Hornet Mentor. He also is a Dean's List scholar, a member of the University Programs and Activities Board’s Social Media Team and vice president of the Beta Zeta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
The inauguration ceremony included a special performance by ASU's acapella singing group, OneAChord; a welcome from David Hammond Jr., director of Student Life; an occasion by Chancellor Bacon, SGA executive vice president; and an invocation by Lauren Thomas.
Dejuan O. Trotman, the 72nd SGA president, delivered the charge to Wilson before an address by ASU's 15th President, Dr. Quinton T. Ross Jr.
Wilson's administration is built around the philosophy of "The LABEL," which stands for Listen, Advocate, Build, Elevate and Lead. The administration's guiding principles emphasize listening to students and advocating for their needs while creating opportunities for students to grow, succeed and reach their full potential.
According to the administration's platform, "The LABEL represents more than just a record company." Instead, it represents an organization focused on recognizing student potential and helping students become part of something greater than themselves.
The Wilson administration plans to provide opportunities, resources and an environment where students can grow, succeed and leave a lasting impact on Alabama State University.
Wilson has described his approach to leadership as one grounded in service. His administration places listening and advocacy at the forefront, with the belief that effective leadership begins with understanding the needs of those being served.
"Listen, Advocate, Build, Elevate, and Lead" serves as both the administration's guiding philosophy and a call to action for students across campus.
Serving alongside Wilson will be Vice President Chancellor Bacon, Treasurer Da'marcus Thomas and Secretary Don'Quaviion Bourne.
Wilson and his cabinet will represent the student body throughout the 2026-27 academic year.
