SUPPORT THE MUSIC PROGRAM
The music program at Alabama State University has enjoyed a long history and tradition of excellence, with a strong national alumni base and many fine musicians and educators performing, composing, producing and teaching music around the globe. Receiving initial accreditation in 1972, the program has flourished over the years and has been a top producer of HBCU graduates in music and music education, according to national IPEDS data.
Initially offering students an opportunity to study the Classics in piano, voice, and orchestral string instruments, during the early years after the University's founding, the music program at ASU has evolved to offer an inclusive place for all musicians and students to flourish and thrive in a warm, supportive HBCU environment that especially supports and cherishes the contributions of African American and all musicians. Graduates of the music program at ASU have the keen ability to perform across genres and styles, whether it is auditioning for the Metropolitan Opera, or touring the world as a musician in a gospel, R&B, or pop group. At ASU, students are encouraged to study a variety of styles and genres, and to develop the skills necessary to exist, work, and flourish in the multicultural world of music and the Arts..
In addition to the rich history of the Bama State Collegians at ASU, the University Choir & Mighty Marching Hornets have also been an integral part of the university’s image, and continue to represent the University with style, flair, and professionalism. The performance accomplishments of both groups are quite extensive and impressive, from performing in the Tournament of Roses parade, to performing on the stages of Carnegie Hall. We are focused and determined to preserve and enhance the rich tradition of excellence of the music program, and we welcome your support and contributions as alumni, fans, and supporters of the music program at ASU. Your donation ensures the success of the program, and the support of future generations of ASU students.
