Dr. Carly Johnson

Dr. Carly Johnson serves as Professor of Trumpet and Chair of the Department of Music at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, where she teaches applied trumpet, in addition to various other music courses. In Montgomery, Dr. Johnson frequently performs with the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra and for shows at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. She has performed as a guest soloist with the Orquestra Sinfonia de Oriente in Santiago de Cuba, and as a soloist and with various brass and orchestral ensembles in France, Germany, Spain, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. In 2010, she won first prize in the trumpet division of the Susan B. Slaughter International Brass Solo Competition in Toronto, Canada. She completed the Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio in 2005, the Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of Florida and the Bachelor of Music Education degree from the Dana School of Music in Youngstown, Ohio. She currently resides in Montgomery with her husband Michael, and in her free time serves as the conductor of the River Region Brass Band.
