Mr. Kevin Blackmon serves as Instructor of Recording Technology for the Department of Music at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, where he teaches musicianship, songwriting, and popular music arranging.

Mr. Blackmon received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Alabama State University, a graduate degree in Commercial Music at Belmont University and is currently completing the Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition degree at the University of Alabama.     

As a composer, educator, and recording technologist whose work bridges contemporary concert music, jazz traditions, gospel influences, and commercial music production, his compositions explore rich harmonic language, extended chord structures, and the intersection between live performance and studio-based sound design.

His work often emphasizes collaborative creation, drawing on his experience working with ensembles and student musicians.
In addition to his work as an educator, Blackmon is the founder and musical director of Gumptown Brass Band, an ensemble known for blending brass band traditions with contemporary R&B, jazz, and gospel influences.

His compositions range from orchestral and choral works to jazz ensemble pieces and commercial music productions. Through his music, Blackmon seeks to create emotionally resonant works that connect classical traditions with modern musical expression.
