The John Hardy Student Center Amphitheater at Alabama State University will soon come alive with the smooth sounds of jazz. Starting at 6 p.m. on July 19, music lovers will gather under the stars for one of the University’s most cherished events: Jazz on the Grass.
The night’s highlight is the celebrated guitarist Slim Gambill, known for his 13 years with the country group Lady A and his signature two-foot-long braids. Gambill’s unique style shines in his albums “Fake Jazz & Theme Songs" and "LCD,” and his new single "Up" promises to enchant the crowd. Gambill’s blend of jazz and country influences creates a captivating musical experience.
Adding to the evening’s magic are local favorites like multi-instrumentalist Ron Handy, who has shared stages with icons such as Alicia Keys and Patti LaBelle. The Montgomery Jazz Alliance will also perform, bringing the rich legacy of Montgomery’s jazz scene to life with their vibrant jam sessions, including collaborations with legends like Fred Wesley.
Tickets for this soulful celebration are $25. Purchase here: https://tinyurl.com/JOTG2026. Attendees can look forward to an unforgettable night of music, community, and the timeless joy of jazz under the Alabama sky.
