Broadcast veteran Darryl Elliott, better known as Darryl E., has been selected as the new Station Manager for WVAS-FM 90.7, the “voice of Alabama State University,” ushering in a new era of student-driven media on campus.
Elliott, who will start his new position on May 1, 2026, is a well-known executive in broadcasting and event management, with decades of experience in professional media production, large-scale event coordination, and technology integration. He brings proven leadership, technical expertise, and strategic vision to Alabama State University and WVAS.
“I’m excited to join the ASU family. I always wanted an ASU jacket, and I feel I’ve earned it now. I look forward to what lies ahead,” Elliott said.
With a focus on broadcast innovation, Elliott is actively developing programming and keynote presentations on the integration of Artificial Intelligence within the broadcasting industry, positioning himself as a thought leader at the intersection of technology and media.
Elliott pointed out that his vision is to maximize student involvement and to emphasize CommUniversity by getting the community back involved with WVAS.
“Some swift changes will also happen with the station in terms of how it will sound, how we deliver the music and the image of the station,” said Elliott.
Professional Legacy & Vision
From his early days as a college DJ to becoming a visionary in broadcasting and event management, Elliott’s story is one of growth and giving back. His expertise extends beyond the studio; he is a master of event management, having orchestrated large-scale concert proposals for high-profile artists such as Kem.
