The Alabama State University Board of Trustees has inducted three new members and named Delbert Madison, a senior vice president at ServisFirst Bank, as its new president.
Madison, a graduate of Alabama State University with a degree in business administration, has served on the board for since February 2020 and has shown a passion for higher education and community initiatives. He succeeds Brenda Brown Dillard as board president. Joining him in the administrative change is Paulette Edwards, who is now president pro tempore, succeeding Madison in that role.
“I am both honored and excited to begin my term as president of the Alabama State University Board of Trustees,” Madison said.
Madison said he is proud of the work that the board has done in support of student success during his six-year tenure.
“Student success will continue to be at the center of what we do as members of the ASU Board of Trustees,” Madison said. “We will also emphasize growing the University, not only by increased enrollment, but also in terms of sustainability so that Alabama State University can continue to impact future generations of Hornets.”
Delbert Madison praised the nominating committee for recommending the three new board inductees:
- Senator Bobby D. Singleton, who brings more than two decades of legislative experience and public service to the board. A native of Greensboro, Alabama, he currently serves in the Alabama State Senate, representing District 24.
- Judge Angela Starr, a Montgomery-based legal professional, brings more than 20 years of legal experience to the board. She currently serves as a full-time municipal judge with the Montgomery Municipal Court.
- Patricia A. “Patsy” Jones, a retired educator and longtime public servant, brings decades of leadership in local government and education to the board.
Longtime trustees Darrell Hudson, Angela McKenzie and Joe Whitt are concluding their terms of service on the board. They were praised for their vital role in advancing the University’s mission and supporting student success.
