black history month

FEBRUARY 25 - 26

Roots to Rejuvenation

Teaching Garden | 9 a.m. - noon | Free

We propose an event highlighting the contributions of Black farmers in shaping today’s urban sustainability practices. The event will begin with a presentation on scientific contributions of black farmers in shaping the current urban sustainability practices. This will be followed by a student-led, hands-on workshop divided into three interactive modules:

  1. Kitchen Scraps to Food: Regrowing vegetables and herbs from leftover stems and roots.
  2. Composting Basics: Using brown cardboard, office paper, and vegetable waste to create nutrient-rich compost.
  3. Organic Home Cleaners: Learning to make bio-enzymes for natural cleaning.

The event aims to promote environmental awareness and introduce nature-based biological solutions to current environmental challenges. Our goal is to reduce waste and create value from recycling and repurposing that fosters creativity, community involvement, and sustainable living on campus and beyond.
