A retired employee of Alabama State University, Felecia Lewis, passed away on May 18, in Montgomery, Alabama.

Lewis held several leadership positions during her tenure at ASU including, director of the Public Relation’s Department and aide to Executive Vice President, Dr. John F. Knight, Jr. Lewis also was well known for her work with the University’s public radio station, WVAS-FM 90.7.

A native of Montgomery, Lewis attended the historic Hutchinson Street Missionary Baptist Church with her parents and three siblings in her youth. Known for her studious demeanor, she graduated in 1974 from Robert E. Lee High School as an honor student and then attended Duke University on a scholarship.

Dr. Knight shared that Lewis was a "top-notch" employee who was part of his leadership team. He said she was known for her fine attention to detail.

"Felecia started out with our WVAS radio station and then helped us build-up the public relations program at ASU," Knight said. "She was very good at coordinating, editing and writing articles for our ‘ASU Today Magazine,’ as well as news releases and speeches for the presidents of Alabama State and others. She would lend a helping hand to whoever needed assistance at the University. She was a great asset to Alabama State."

The funeral arrangements will be announced later in the week by The Ross-Clayton Funeral Home, which may be reached for more details at either 334-262-3889 or at www.rossclaytonfh.com.
