Alabama State University recently hosted its annual Continuous Improvement Summit at the John Garrick Hardy Student Center. This significant two-day event marked the official launch of the 2025–26 continuous improvement cycle, underscoring the University’s unwavering commitment to assessment, reflection, and growth within its academic and administrative frameworks.
Dr. Carl Pettis, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Tanjula Petty, Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, Strategic Initiatives, and Transformation, delivered the opening remarks. Their addresses powerfully emphasized the shared responsibility of the entire University community in fostering a robust culture of accountability and institutional excellence across all departments.
This year's inspiring theme, “Building a Culture of Purposeful Progress,” featured specialized tracks tailored for academic programs, administrative units, and student affairs.
“These meticulously designed tracks aimed to equip participants with essential tools and effective strategies for comprehensive planning and thorough assessment,” said Dr. Pettis.
Dr. Tara Rose, a nationally recognized expert in higher education assessment, delivered the keynote presentation. Her insightful perspectives encouraged attendees to engage deeply with evidence-based practices, which are crucial for promoting meaningful change and fostering long-term improvement within the institution.
The entire event was organized by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, with key contributions from Avis Wheeler, Institutional Effectiveness Coordinator, and Assessment Specialists Brittany Hollins, Raymond Green, and George Williams. Their dedication ensured the summit's smooth execution and success.
