  1. Maxwell-Gunter Spouses Club

Each year, the Maxwell-Gunter Spouses Club (MGSC) proudly awards scholarships to military dependents and military spouses to help them pursue their higher educational goals.  These scholarships are awarded to the selected students on the basis of academic excellence and involvement in the school and community.  All of our scholarships are funded from the profits of the Maxwell AFB Thrift Shop.  Scholarship awards range from $1000 to $3000.

MGSC is pleased to announce the 2020-2021 Academic Scholarship application is now available for eligible students to download from our website:

Applicants must be one of the following:

  • A dependent of an Active Duty, National Guard or Reserve military member of any rank assigned to Maxwell Air Force Base
  • A military dependent who resides within 30 miles of Maxwell Air Force Base, to include dependents of retired or deceased military members of any rank; or
  • A dependent of an Active Duty, National Guard, or Reserve military member of any rank whose military sponsor’s servicing Military Personnel Flight is the 42nd Force Support Squadron.

We are offering two awards for teaching students from underrepresented groups this year.

Our Empowered Future Teachers Scholarship aims to make an impact in the lives of aspiring teachers in America. Twice per year, we award a teaching student with a $10,000 scholarship to further their educational goals. To apply, students must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Deadlines: June 30th and January 1st every year
  • Must be enrolled in an Education-related major (see scholarship page for details)
  • Must be pursuing a career as a preschool through 5th grade teacher (any discipline)
  • Must be enrolled at an accredited 2-year, 4-year, or technical/vocational college or university in the United States
  • Open to college undergraduates, graduate students, and professional students
  • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA

Our Building the Future Scholarship program supports those who have financial or diversity struggles because we understand the need for a diverse classroom to create a stronger community. Twice per year, we will award two talented aspiring early childhood education teachers with a $5,000 scholarship each towards their educational expenses. To apply, students must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a low income student or student from an underrepresented group
  • Must be pursuing a career as a preschool-5th grade teacher (any discipline)
  • Must be enrolled at an accredited 2-year, 4-year, or technical/vocational college or university in the United States
  • Open to college undergraduates
  • Must be enrolled in an Education-related major (see scholarship page for details)
  • Must be a United States citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Open to students from all states
  • Scholarship winner must provide an official transcript for enrollment verification

  1. The JoAnne Robinson Memorial Scholarship

     GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATION: 

  • Applicant must be a fulltime college student with a major in broadcast journalism and should be African-American
  • Scholarship is open to students nationwide 
  • Scholarship is one time only and cannot be renewed and is open to students going into their sophomore, junior or senior year 
  • Applicant does not have to prove financial need 
  • Applicant must exemplify qualities demonstrated by JoAnne Robinson — hard working, detail oriented; must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and a dedication to excellence, personally and professionally 
  • Applicant must submit academic records (transcripts), a written statement describing personal background, goals, values and characteristics distinguishing the student, making him/her a candidate worthy of recognition. Applicant should also submit a statement from at least one college professor. Each year a Scholarship Committee will select the recipient of the JoAnne Robinson Memorial Scholarship. The name of the recipient will be submitted to the Scripps Howard Foundation. The Foundation will forward funds directly to the student's educational institution. Funds may be used towards tuition, books and/or other educational expenses. Deadline for applications is February 28th each year. A scholarship of $1,000.00 will be awarded at the end of the Spring Semester for use during the upcoming academic year.
