Loan Entrance Counseling Session

All first-time Stafford Loan borrowers are required to complete an Entrance Interview. You are considered a first-time borrower if this is your first time receiving a loan at Alabama State University. Entrance Loan Counseling must be completed prior to the release of the first disbursement of loan proceeds.

The session provides information about the financial aid process and student loans. This information includes:

• Your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower
• The consequences of delinquency and default
• Loan consolidation
• Available repayment options
• Deferment and forbearance options

It may take about 15 minutes to work through this information. In addition, you must complete a quiz at the end of the counseling session. ^{Loan Exit Counseling Session}

All students who received Stafford Loans while attending Alabama State University must complete Exit Counseling prior to or at the time they cease to be enrolled at least half-time. This includes students who graduate, drop to less than half-time, or officially/unofficially withdraw. Students who are graduating must complete this process in order to get clearance to receive their degrees. You must provide the names, complete addresses and phone numbers of at least two references on your Exit Counseling form. Your references must be at different addresses and should know your whereabouts for at least three years after you leave Alabama State University.

The session provides information about repaying your loan(s). This information includes:

• Your rights and responsibilities as a student loan borrower
• Your loan repayment options
• Debt management tools to help you manage your student loans effectively
• The consequences of delinquency and default

You will complete a quiz and then provide your contact information, your next of kin and your references. Contact the Loan Management Department in the Office of Financial Aid if you have any questions. Complete your Exit Counseling now at www.studentloans.gov.
