Alabama State University's Dr. Manoj Mishra, professor of Biology and director of
the University's Cancer Research Center (formerly known as Cancer Biology Research
and Training-CBRT), has co-written a new book, “Public Health Issues: Theory and Practices.”
“It took two years to finish 'Public Health Issues' and get it published,” said Mishra.
“The book addresses diverse issues ranging from the control of infectious diseases,
especially vaccine-preventable diseases, to nutritional aspects such as the prevention
of iron-deficiency anemia and more.”
He explained that the book follows the changes in public health, beginning with infectious
diseases and moving to current challenges with chronic illnesses. It also discusses
how non-communicable diseases have shifted in developed countries and how developing
nations deal with both infectious and chronic diseases.
“My colleagues, Dr. Shalie Malik and Dr. Varun Chhachhar, from University of Lucknow, India, are co-authors of the book,” he said.
Mishra has been recognized as one of the Top 25 professors at HBCUs in the nation,
and in 2015, he received the STEM faculty of the year award at Alabama State University.
