The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), in collaboration with Alabama State University and Trenholm State Community College, is hosting the SOAR (Seeking, Observing, and Achieving Results) HBCU Scholars Program this week, June 22 - June 27 on the ASU campus.
SOAR is a one-week residential summer program, designed for high-achieving high school rising seniors (class of 2026) and offers participants a unique opportunity to explore Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Historically Black Community Colleges (HBCCs).
Throughout the program (see the schedule below), students will gain valuable insights into college admissions, financial aid, and scholarship resources, while also exploring academic majors and career pathways.
Notably, SOAR is offered at no cost to participants.
In addition to the academic exposure, key highlights for the program include:
Career Development Programs: Providing mentorships, internships, and networking opportunities.
Financial Empowerment Initiatives: Offering guidance on scholarships, financial literacy, and wealth-building strategies.
Leadership Training: Equipping students with the skills and confidence to lead in various industries.
“TMCF is redefining how students transition from academic environments to professional success,” states Alabama State University President and TMCF Board Member, Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr. “With this program, we are ensuring that students have access to the tools, knowledge, and networks necessary to thrive in today’s competitive workforce. This collaboration will ensure that students, particularly those from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), have access to the tools, knowledge, and networks necessary to thrive in today’s competitive workforce.”
In addition to exploring both campuses this week, attendees will experience various attractions in Montgomery and the River Region, incorporating key industry and site visits including trips to the Equal Justice Initiative and the Montgomery Biscuits.
“We are excited to serve as hosts once again for this phenomenal program,” said Trenholm State Community College President, Dr. Kemba Chambers. “This prestigious opportunity allows these amazing students to explore not only the various academic options available but also provides a unique hands-on learning experience to explore workforce career opportunities.”
