Alabama State University's Dr. Vineeth Vijayan, an assistant professor of Biomedical Engineering in the University's Department of Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering, was granted an Affiliate Membership at the Penn Center for Musculoskeletal Disorders (PCMD).

His membership to the PCMD encompasses his affiliation with a prestigious National Institute of Health funded center—the longest-running center in the country for musculoskeletal disorders—housed within the Ivy League institution of the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn).

"I am excited to be awarded membership in what is one of the nation’s leading research universities in musculoskeletal science," said Vijayan. "My research that was the nexus of what brought me the membership at UPenn focuses on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, particularly on the development of advanced biomaterials and 3D-printed scaffolds for musculoskeletal repair."

Vijayan feels that his recognition reflects national-level validation of ASU’s contributions to translational biomedical research.

"My outreach, research and this membership aligns closely with the University’s strategic mission to expand its research enterprise," stated Vijayan. "This affiliation opens new doors for collaborative grant proposals, interdisciplinary projects, and enhanced visibility for Alabama State University at the national level."
