HBCU Undergraduate Collaborative Summer Training Program in Prostate Cancer
The HBCU Undergraduate Collaborative Summer Training Program in Prostate Cancer is collaboration between UNT Health Science Center and Alabama State University, and is funded by a grant award from the Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Summer Training Program. If you are interested in paid summer research experiences, the University of North Texas Health Science Center has exciting opportunities in the prostate cancer research. The Summer Training Program provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students to gain experience in laboratory under the supervision of faculty and senior graduate students. Ten weeks summer research internships are available for qualified undergraduates considering a career in prostate cancer research. The program provides a stipend and housing accommodations. Participants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Undergraduate student attending Alabama State University should be
- Junior standing the upcoming fall semester
- 3.0 minimum cumulative grade point average
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
- Major in the life sciences (biology, biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology, etc.)
- Intention of pursuing a Ph.D. after graduation
Applicants must submit the following materials:
- Application
- Current transcript (all colleges previously attended)
- Two recommendation letters from faculty members
Application and all supported materials must be received by March 18, 2017
Program Components:
- Academic advising
- Library and electronic research techniques
- Preparation for research
- Work with faculty member whose research interests related to their own
- Develop a Computer-Assistaed oral and poster presentation at the end of the program
