We are the uncensored voice of Alabama State University with our motto, “So let it be written, So let it be done with style and creativity.”
The Office of Student Media trains and educates students through hands-on experiences and informs the campus with a variety of student-operated broadcast, online and print media. The skills and proficiencies gained while working in the Office of Student Media develop from out-of-classroom experiences that expand upon knowledge gained from professors and textbooks.
Currently, Alabama State University’s student media is composed of several student-produced media properties: The Hornet Tribune newspaper, The Equinox literary magazine, ENVISAGE general interest magazine, and the HORNET Yearbook. In addition, there are several divisions of interest that allow students to gain even more experience: Standards, Ethics and Quality Control, Media and Marketing, Presentation and Design, Communication and Public Affairs and Visual and Multimedia. Contact us today to explore how we can work together.
The Office of Student Media is a part of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. The Director of Student Media oversees the department, serves as the general manager to all mediums, and oversees the financial areas of the office. The department also provides training, equipment, facilities and software student staff members need to produce content for their online newspaper and develop skills during their collegiate careers.
The Office of Student Media operates to benefit the campus community through the publication of quality media and to provide opportunities in journalism, digital production, marketing and co-curricular leadership for the development of interested students.
