What To Bring To ASU

Are you ready to #LiveTheHornetLife ?? To help you set up house in your new room at ASU, we have compiled a list of items you may want to bring to college with you. While this is only a partial list, we hope it will get you started. And remember to take a look around at the things you have at home to keep you comfortable –this will give you a better idea about some of the items you may want to bring with you.

 

Suggested Items to Bring

  • Alarm clock/clock radio
  • Mattress pad
  • Insurance cards & medical information
  • Sheets & blankets for extra-long twin
  • Pillow(s) and pillowcases
  • Prescription drugs
  • Bedspread/comforter/or blankets
  • Laundry basket and detergent
  • Bookbag or briefcase
  • Towels
  • Surge protectors/power strips
  • General school supplies
  • Flashlight & batteries
  • Toiletries
  • Computer (laptop) & printer
  • Shower caddy & shower shoes
  • Clothes hangers
  • Iron (automatic shutoff)/Ironing Board
  • Cups, bowls, plates
  • Wastebasket
  • Microwaves (700 watts or less)
  • Cable cord (at least 6 feet)
  • Cable converter box
  • Refrigerators (2.6 cubic feet or smaller)
  • Area rug or carpet 
  • Small padlock (for Estell and MLKing)
  • Cleaning supplies (bleach, multi-cleaner wipes, etc.)
  • TV (smaller than 32 inches)
  • Basic first-aid kit
  • Small handheld vacuum cleaner
  • DVD/Blu-Ray player
  • Shower curtain (talk with your roommate)

  • Candles/incense
  • Drugs/Drug Paraphernalia
  • Oil lamps
  • Octopus/spider lamps
  • Deep fryers
  • Paint (except those allowed for use in art classes
  • Hot plates and toasters (no open coils)
  • Electric blankets
  • Power tools
  • Air conditioners or space heaters
  • Extension cords (any type)
  • Satellite dishes/antennas placed outside of room
  • Halogen lights, lamps or high-intensity bulbs
  • Guns, weapons or ammunition
  • Space heaters
  • Alcohol & alcohol containers
  • Grills of any kind (including electrical)
  • Street signs (University, city, county or state)
  • Hookah/pipes/inflammables (any open flame devices)
  • Glow-in-the-dark stars/stickers
  • Waterbeds/mattress
  • Candle/coffee mug warmers
  • Hotplates, blenders or George Forman Grills

 

  • Ceiling fans/track lighting
  • Wireless routers/access points

 

  • Cinder blocks
  • Pets (including fish, birds, lizards, dogs, cats, etc.)

 

  • Contact/Wallpaper 
  • Large microwaves (over 700 watts)

 

  • Curtains (unless UL listed with flame retardant material
  • Natural-cut trees, branches or greens
