Yellowhammer Multimedia just released this year's class of Yellowhammer-15 award recipients, and Alabama State University President Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr. is among the honorees. The award is given to those Alabamians who help to “shape the state in a positive and meaningful way.”

Joining Ross among the "15" in receiving the award this year includes Charles McCrary, retired CEO/chairman of Alabama Power; Randy Owens, lead singer of the group Alabama; Senator Del Marsh, president pro-tem of the Alabama State Senate; and Judge John England, Jr., a prominent retired jurist.

"I am personally humbled and honored to receive this recognition from Yellowhammer for my life's work which includes my tenure as President of my beloved alma mater. I am proud of the University’s role as a leading institution of higher learning in the state of Alabama. This award highlights the great work that is being done not just by a single individual, but by all of the University’s leaders and those alumni who have graduated to become change-agents across the world,” Ross said.

Kate Anderson with Yellowhammer Multimedia stated that "This particular award is very special and denotes that President Ross and his fellow award-winners are exemplary leaders in their professional fields who make Alabama a better place to live, work and raise a family."

She said that recipients may only be recognized in the Yellowhammer-15 listing once in their lifetime, and the award is synonymous with one reaching the pinnacle of professional and civic achievement.

ABOUT ROSS AS WRITTEN IN THE YELLOWHAMMER-15 ARTICLE

In the article that names the Yellowhammer-15 (read the full article by clicking this link  https://yellowhammernews.com/the-yellowhammer-15-announced-for-2021-2022/), Ross is described as follows: "Dr. Ross possesses a keen understanding of the role Historically Black Colleges and Universities have played in Alabama’s history and the necessity to strengthen these vital institutions as the state moves further into the 21st century. Ross has focused intensely on fundraising for the school. That focus, and the clout that he brings to the position, have resulted in a 130 percent increase in donations through individuals, corporations and other appropriations. Following his mantra ‘Moving ASU 150 years forward,’ the former four-term state senator has opened doors for the University’s students through partnerships across Alabama, the nation and the world."

The article notes that Ross not only serves as ASU's 15th president but also among his many accolades and honors, he serves as vice chairman of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education’s Council of Presidents.
