Greetings, Hornet Family!
I just wanted to express my excitement about our opening game in Birmingham. The Hornets “turned up” not only on the field but also in the stands.
The football team played a tremendous game against the UAB Blazers. The final score really does not reflect the totality of the game. Our players and coaches did an outstanding job. My congratulations to Coach Donald Hill-Eley and his staff for the obvious preparation of the team; and of course, my enthusiastic congratulations go to the student-athletes who played with an abundance of heart and athleticism. As I reflect on the game, I am so proud of what this great team was able to accomplish against all odds.
I also want to say a big “thank you” to those fans who were able to make the trip to Birmingham to support our Hornets. I’m told that there were more than 39,000 people in Legion Field for the game, and Hornet Nation showed up in big numbers to nearly fill our side of the field to capacity. I know that your presence provided a great deal of welcome support for Coach Hill-Eley, his coaches and especially for our team.
We also are grateful to the Jefferson/Shelby County chapter of the NAA for coordinating a wonderful tailgate experience to jump-start the excitement for the game.
We’re off to a fantastic start to our season. Let’s all be proud of what we experienced during this opening game. It takes all of us, showing up for every game, to show our Hornet pride “all day, every day!”
Go Hornets!
With Hornet Pride,
President Quinton T. Ross, Jr.
