Two Alabama State University faculty members, Instructor Kim Smith and Dr. Sara Kiser, were selected and attended the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Program's (ACBSP) "Women’s Academic Leadership Conference," a sold out event that was recently held in New Orleans, La.

Kiser, who teaches Management at COBA, stated that the event was a professional development opportunity sponsored by Peregrine, which paid the registration fee for both herself and Smith. She added that ACBSP is COBA’s accrediting agency.

All of the women who attended the New Orleans event were leading business education professionals who were present to share their experiences and challenges, and learn from other experts in the field.
"This event was designed to empower educational business professionals to make a larger and more positive difference in their organization and community, while creating space for all voices to be heard," Kiser said.
She explained that a diverse group of speakers and panelists discussed three key topics at the summit that its professionals feel are increasingly relevant to women in higher education leadership positions.
"We discussed and learned about inclusion that included diversity and gender equity, salary negotiation, and how to engage colleagues in the conversation on inclusion; becoming an innovative leader by exploring different leadership styles, assessing student learning, and developing creative policies to increase women's participation in teaching, research, and leadership; and finally impact, focusing on personal development as a leader, paving the way for the next generation of leaders in higher education, and sharing its leadership tools of best practices, techniques, skills, and strategies."
