Alabama State University President, Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr., will deliver his annual “State of the Campus” address on Thursday, October 8, during ASU’s virtual Fall Convocation.

The theme for the convocation is “Embracing the New Normal: Moving ASU Forward.”

“Throughout the 153-year history of ASU, we have always demonstrated the ability to be resilient and survive the most difficult trials,” said Dr. Tanjula Petty, interim assistant provost for Academic Affairs. “In maintaining some sense of normalcy, the Convocation will be held via a virtual platform so that all faculty, staff and students can participate.”

ASU’s Fall Convocation is a longstanding tradition held during the first semester, and sets the tone for the academic year. The virtual aspect of this event allows Ross the opportunity to address all of Hornet Nation during this unprecedented time of COVID-19 and outline his vision and expectations for the academic year.

Other presentations will include virtual performances by the University Choir, the Mighty Marching Hornets Band and other special guests.

Petty said the convocation also welcomes a diverse group of its student body from around the world and celebrates its academic traditions and excellence.

“Individuals should walk away from the convocation knowing that although we are in a challenging time, this institution will come out standing on the other side of this pandemic,” Petty said. “No matter what the situation, we will continue to persevere and demonstrate a commitment to teaching and learning, and we will live up to our commitment to be student-centered and create opportunities for student success.”

ASU’s Fall Convocation can be viewed on ASU’s official Facebook page, www.facebook.com/asu on Thursday, October 8, beginning at 11 a.m. CST.
