The global technology development company, Draganfly, is donating its drone-delivered Varigard Sanitizing spray to help in the protection of fans attending the 79th McDonald’s Magic City Classic game at Legion Field on Saturday, April 17. Draganfly will spray the stadium with its proprietary Varigard 24-hour pathogen sequestration and kill sanitizing spray applied via patented drone technology.
The donation stems from the company’s year-long partnership with Alabama State University (ASU). The Magic City Classic is the time-honored football showdown between the Alabama State University Hornets and the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M University.
Alabama State University adopted the full Draganfly COVID-19 safety protocol as part of the Safely Opening Schools System which provides an integrated health and screening protocol to be used campus-wide to screen, detect, assess protect and continuously action against the potential threat of infectious disease including COVID -19. Alabama State University has been utilizing the Draganfly-Varigard spray sanitizer at their basketball and football stadiums over the past year.
ASU President Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr. said he is proud that the University’s association with Draganfly will be of benefit to the city of Birmingham, as well as all of the Hornets and Bulldog fans.
“ASU engaged with Draganfly because we felt that there is no price that can be put on the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, alumni and community,” Ross said. “ASU was one of the first Universities in the country to recognize the benefit of partnering with Draganfly, and we have been able to take full advantage of the cutting-edge technology and services that the company offers to keep our campus as safe as possible during this pandemic. Technology such as Draganfly’s Vital Intelligence and Varigard Sanitizer is a worthy investment and is a vital part of our overall campus safety protocols.”
The announcement of the use of Draganfly’s drone-spraying technology came from Birmingham City Council President, William Parker, who is pleased to have the additional safeguard for game attendees.
Draganfly is part of the National Safely Opening Schools (SOS) initiative, an end-to-end protocol composed of leading companies that provide health screening, testing, medical personnel, equipment, sanitization and data analysis to help ensure the safe operation of facilities.
The Safely Opening Schools System was designed by a consortium of companies, which includes Coldchain Technology Services (testing), Hueman (nurse staffing), Health Hero (preventative), and Draganfly (screening and pathogen spraying). Together a blueprint was developed to what was required to open schools and the companies recognized that the best way to safely open schools was through an integrated solution.
“This is the type of technology and leadership that will get our schools and their programs operational again,” said Derek Anderson, NBA, NCAA champion and Draganfly board advisor. “The SOS initiative with Draganfly is key to ensuring we have sustainable health security for all facilities for years to come.”
