Distinguished Lecture Series to Feature Kwoya Fagin Maples

Alabama State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences will host its Distinguished Lecture Series on March 27 at 11 a.m. at the Ralph D. Abernathy auditorium.

Kwoya Fagin Maples, author of Mend, which tells the story of the birth of obstetrics and gynecology in America and the role black enslaved women played in that process, will serve as the guest speaker.

Maples, a native of Charleston, S.C., holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama and is a Cave Canem Fellow and a current Alabama State Council on the Arts Literary Fellow.

Proceeds will support CLASS student and faculty research. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
