We believe cost should never be an obstacle to seeking the benefits of higher education. That’s why our Financial Aid Office will work hard to make sure you are informed about the many types of aid available to you and guide you through the process of securing financial assistance.

How Financial Aid Works

Step 1: Be admitted to Alabama State University (click here to apply now);

Step 2: Get an FSA ID from www.fsaid.ed.gov (click here to visit the FSA ID site now);

Step3: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) click here to apply now;

Step 4: Access Hornet’s Web for Students (click here to access Hornet’s Web now);

Step 5: Check your Hornet’s Web for Students To-Do List;

Step 6: Complete a Loan Counseling Session (click here to complete now);

Step 7: Sign a Master Promissory Note (click here to esign now);

Step 8: Register for classes;

Step 9: Sign up for direct deposit  (optional);

Step 10: Check Hornet's Web for award and refund information;

Step 11: Pay remaining account balance not covered by financial aid;

Step 12: Keep your information updated in Hornet's Web.

Award Letters

Award letters are being mailed out now.
Be sure to complete your 2018/2019 FAFSA

1. If you have not completed a 2018/2019 FAFSA, do the following:

If your are starting Spring 2019 - Complete a 2018/2019 FAFSA
Request an FSA ID from www.fsaid.ed.gov (A FSA ID should be requested by both student & parent)
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

2. If you have been selected for verification, additional documents are needed. To find out if you have been selected and what is needed, do the following:

If selected for Verification, submit the documents listed on your TO-DO List asap.

(Be prepared to contact your local IRS office or visit www.irs.gov to obtain your TAX RETURN TRANSCRIPT)
If you HAVE received an award letter:

1. You can review your award letter, do the following by:

2. Student MUST complete LOAN ENTRANCE COUNSELING and MASTER PROMISSORY NOTE. at www.studentloans.gov

(Login with FSA ID and Password)

     >> Loan funds will be disbursed 30 days after the first day of class for all first-time borrowers
