Community Relations Mission Statement

The mission of the Community Relations Department is to build upon the University’s tradition and commitment to develop and maintain programs consistent with the University’s mission statement that are responsive to the needs of individual citizens, public groups, and agencies in the City of Montgomery and surrounding areas. The University programs should build and maintain reciprocal relationships with entities in the community and therefore increase engagement opportunities with the community by addressing their interests and needs.

Community Relations Overview

The productive utilization of volunteers requires a planned and organized effort. The function of the University Volunteer program is to provide a central coordinating point for effective volunteer management within the University. The volunteer program is responsible for maintaining relationships with other programs in the community and assisting in community-wide efforts to recognize and promote volunteering. A University Relations designee takes primary responsibility for planning effective volunteer utilization, for identifying productive and creative volunteer roles, for recruiting suitable volunteers and for tracking and evaluating the statistical data reflecting the contribution of volunteers to the University and the community. The University Volunteer database will be comprised of individuals who have volunteered for community service projects in the current academic year. The list will be updated at the beginning of the each Fall Semester. The Department of Community Relations operates under the direction of the Coordinator of Marketing and Communications in the Division of Institute Advancement. Its main responsibilities are:

  • University Volunteers
  • Requests for University Promotional Items
  • Requests for Sponsorships
  • Distribution of Materials
  • Placement of University Signage
