The Alabama Broadcasters Association (ABA) returned to the Alabama State University campus for the second time in a year for a training event that culminated with additional scholarship funds being award to the University's Communication Department students.
Dr. Ivon Alcime, associate professor of Communications, explained that the ABA conducted a broadcast sales training event at ASU for its members and the University's
"The ABA members were so impressed (with ASU's students) that they upped the scholarships that they have dedicated to our students," Alcime stated. "The scholarship recipients of the $1,000 are as follows: Johnae Dean, Briana Woodley, Amayah Williams and Marc Nyantakyi,"
"ASU's Communication students and the ABA all participated very professionally together...our students asked so many questions during the dedicated Q & A session that we ran out of time, and Mark Bunting with WSFA spoke with students afterward about hirings and internships," Alcime said.
Alcime added that the success of the event can also be attributed in part to the work of several faculty members that included Dr. Kimberly Baker and Instructor Eric Knox
"The Alabama Broadcasters Association will have its annual conference in August, and it is my hope that we will find a way to send a few communications students to the conference...the more ABA sees what ASU does with its students, the more the ABA should keep supporting our students and the University," Alcime exclaimed.
