Welcome to the Alabama State University Masters of Social Work Program. Here it is our mission to prepare students for advanced professional practice and to equip them with the requisite knowledge, skills, and values in specialized areas of practice. Graduates will be prepared to work with various populations in the State of Alabama and beyond with particular emphasis on those who are vulnerable, poor, and under-served.
Additionally, the master’s level degree will allow students to integrate scholarship into practice through an evidence-based philosophy. They will learn to use research techniques, including surveys, focus groups and other methods of analysis to inform their clinical decisions and affect positive outcomes. Currently, the program offers three tracks:
· Advanced Standing (1-year program)
· Traditional (2-year program)
· Part-time (4-year program)
Our concentration offerings are forensic social work, mental health and gerontology. It is our hope that you will find the enclosed curriculum information useful as you prepare for your professional education in this truly rewarding field. Our courses are primarily offered in the traditional classroom setting or hybrid (partially on-line).
We invite you to visit our campus and department to learn more about the program.
