About the Small Business Development Center

The Small Business Development Center (an community/business outreach unit of ASU and the Percy J. Vaughn Jr. College of Business Administration) is not listed on the ASU new and attractive website. I am requesting assistance with getting SBDC information on the website and required logos by our funding agency. The following is some information about the SBDC:

The Alabama State University Small Business Development Center in the College of Business Administration mission is to provide technical and management assistance to small businesses and prospective business owners by offering one-on-one business advising and educational training to small businesses targeted for increasing employment, fostering growth and improving financial stability.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in the College Of Business Administration at Alabama State University provides comprehensive technical and management assistance to existing and pre-venture start-up businesses in eight counties, Autauga, Bullock, Chamber, Coosa, Elmore, Lowndes, Montgomery, and Tallapoosa in the central Alabama region.

The SBDC is committed to providing quality service, technology transfer, training and other services to enhance business development and economic growth, while providing added value for our stakeholders. Through our international trade entity, we foster support for clients interested in import/export trade. The SBDC strives to foster student entrepreneurial skills through business instruction, development of business plans and internships. The SBDC further engage and maintain positive business partnerships with community organizations, local, state and federal agencies.

The SBDC Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) assists Alabama small businesses interested in obtaining contracts with the Department of Defense, other federal agencies and state/local government agencies and participating prime contractors. Its mission is to strengthen Alabama’s economy by stimulating job creation, growth, and business retention. To accomplish this goal, the PTAC offers free business advising services to businesses seeking to obtain federal, state, and local government contracts. Workshops and conferences are also held periodically throughout its eight (8) county servicing areas to assist small businesses in becoming more familiar and better prepared to navigate the procurement process.
