The Office of Career Services at Alabama State University will host an in-person Career and Job Fair on March 30 from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the ASU Dunn-Oliver Acadome. The event will feature more than 86 employers who are looking to hire both full and part-time employees, as well as interns.

The event is open to ASU's student body and to the general public, explained Dr. Sabrina L. Crowder, director of Career Services at the University.Career Fair stock photo

"We truly care about our ASU students, as well as our local residents, and that is why we have organized ASU's Career Fair event. We want to lend a hand's-up to our students and the public; so they may be fully or part-time employed or to be selected for invaluable internships that so many times becomes the foot-in-the-door to future full-time employment upon graduation," Crowder said.

The slate of potential employers represents a wide variety of local, state and national industries and businesses. Crowder credits her staff member, Candice Stinchcomb, with securing commitments from the participating entities.

"At ASU and within our office, we have a commitment to President Ross's ideal of CommUniversity, which is giving back and helping others outside of the campus," Crowder said. "CommUniversity is the University’s crowning tradition, and it is our commitment to develop and maintain programs consistent with the University’s mission statement that allows us to be responsive to the needs of individual citizens, public groups and agencies within the city of Montgomery, the River Region, the Black Belt and beyond."

BE PREPARED AND DRESS FOR SUCCESS

Crowder recommends that all who attend should dress appropriately for a job interview, preferably in business attire, and have several copies of their resumes with them to give to prospective employers.

"Some of the employers may just hire individuals on-the-spot; so, we ask that everyone come prepared and be dressed professionally. Please have your 30-second 'elevator-pitch' honed and ready (an elevator-pitch explains in 30-seconds who you are and why you should be selected for the position) and with a little luck and good preparation, several of our attendees may just land their dream jobs or internships at Alabama State University's Career Fair on-the-spot," Crowder stated.
