Alabama State University’s Department of Theatre Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Dance Program presents the Senior Capstone Project “Shape Shifting” on Nov. 1-2 at 6:30 p.m. at ASU’s Leila Barlow Theatre Tullibody Fine Arts Building, 845 S. Jackson St.
The Senior Capstone Project is a presentation of dance works choreographed by the graduating senior class of the BFA Dance Program. “Shape Shifting” represents the transformation of shapes with the movement of the body through space and time.
The event is free and open to the public.
The Senior Capstone Project will highlight the choreography of eight students: Endya Boyd, Miyana Bennett, Lauren Erwin, Janae Harrington, Taron Harris, Ashley Hurst, Kaylynn Davis-Lovejoy and Aysiah Mahone. The eight choreographic works will present the various styles of dance that the seniors have mastered throughout their four years of study at ASU. These styles include but are not limited to: modern, tap, jazz, contemporary, ballet, African and musical theatre.
“The creative process of ‘Shape Shifting’ has allowed the seniors to receive firsthand experience on choreographing and collaboratively working well with others,” said James R. Atkinson Jr., BFA program director. “The two-day performance is a wonderful way to enjoy your weekend and an event you truly do not want to miss.”
