ASU's BFA Dance Program Presents 'Evolve: A 10th Anniversary Celebration'

Alabama State University's Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Evolve: A 10th Anniversary Celebration" on October 19-21, 2023, at ASU’s Lelia Barlow Theatre at 7 p.m.
Theatre and Dance Department Chair Brain Martin expressed his excitement for the historic event.
"This 10th-Anniversary Celebration is a testament to the dedication and talent of our students and faculty,” Martin said. “'Evolve' will be an enthralling journey through the evolution of dance, showcasing the incredible artistry and creativity that ASU's BFA Dance program has to offer.”
For a decade, the BFA Dance program at ASU has been a hub of dance creativity, nurturing exceptional talent, and fostering an unwavering commitment to artistic exploration. "Evolve" is a tribute to the program's growth and a celebration of its ongoing transformation.
The concert will showcase an eclectic range of choreographic works, demonstrating the versatility and mastery of ASU's dance students. The show also will feature choreography by the program's founding professors, James R. Atkinson, Jr., Michael Medical, and the late Kevin T. Grant. Along with additional works by Morgan Jackson, Rodni Williams, Jason Aryah, and guest artist Obadiah Wright; "Evolve" promises an enchanting experience for audiences of all backgrounds.
Costumes, meticulously designed by Anton Fleeton, will complement the artistry on stage, while lighting, expertly crafted by Thomas Rodman, will enhance the visual spectacle. The auditory journey will be curated by Charles Moncrieft, ensuring a sonic landscape that resonates with the soul.
"Evolve" will feature special show performances for Montgomery Public School students on October 17-19, at 9:30 am.
