Alabama State University student Jamie Harris recently won three awards at the 53rd Annual Montgomery Art Guild Regions Bank Exhibition. Artworks by ASU professors Elana Hagler, Windham Graves and Chris Greenman also were accepted into the show.
“We are so proud of Jamie Harris’ accomplishments,” said Elana Hagler, assistant professor in ASU’s Art Department. “Jamie’s three artworks show her already great achievement and depth as an artist; especially in her depiction of the human form. And Jamie is only at the beginning of a very promising future in the arts!”
Harris also traveled to Italy this past summer and attended the highly prestigious JSS program in Civita Castellana (www.jssincivita.com).
“The JSS hosts a gathering of elite oil painters every year from all across the world,” Hagler said. “It was an intensive, immersion study experience, and Jamie more than held her own.”
Haggler said that Regions Bank’s has been supporting the art scene in Montgomery for 53 years by hosting and supporting these annual shows.
“These past couple of years, arts in Montgomery has been growing, diversifying, and are getting more and more exciting and ambitious. And Regions Bank is a huge part of this with their unwavering support of local artists and, especially in this case, of our young and promising students at Alabama State University,” Hagler said. “This show is upping the ante by being particularly diverse and of high technical quality. This comes soon after the Montgomery Art Guild’s Museum Show, which was thrilling in the high quality of work accepted, and with the joint efforts of the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Montgomery Art Guild, and Regions Bank, the future for arts in Montgomery is looking brighter than ever.”
