​​ASU Senior Scores Prestigious Internship

Alabama State University senior Zakiyah Stirrup, a business management major, will intern this summer with the renowned furniture company Herman Miller based in Zeeland, Michigan.

Stirrup will be a DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) intern, which is a paid, 12-week opportunity that provides a real-world experience for students.

 “I’m grateful and honored to have been selected for this great opportunity!,” an excited Stirrup said.

DEI interns focus on supporting and creating inclusion, incorporating diversity, and improving equity amongst employees.  

“DEI interns will apply academic learning to real-world situations and cultivate leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills,” Stirrup said.

With this internship, Stirrup hopes to create a networking opportunity for underclassmen.

 “I plan on building the connection between ASU and Herman Miller. I would like to create a student ambassadorship opportunity at Herman Miller, enhancing more windows of opportunities here at ASU,” Stirrup explained.

After the completion of her summer internship, Stirrup plans to pursue a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree.

Stirrup is a charter member of  Phi Alpha Delta and was its chapter president from 2020 to 2021. She is  also a member of the Society for Advancement of Management Majors, the National Society of Leadership and Success , as well as a W.E.B DuBois Honor Student.
