ASU Reopening Guide Released

ASU Releases Reopening Guide with Plans for On-Campus Classes in Fall
Alabama State University officials have released plans for the reopening of the campus. Titled “ASU Reopening Guide for Faculty, Staff, Students and Visitors,” the document is a comprehensive guide detailing the “new normal” under which the campus will operate in the fall.
“We are planning now to welcome our students back to campus for the fall semester,” said President Quinton T. Ross, Jr. “This guide sets forth many of the protocols that will help to ensure the safety of the campus family as we face the ongoing challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. We want to emphasize that although the guide is comprehensive in scope, it is a working document. We will continue to monitor data and information related to COVID-19 and make adjustments as necessary.”
Ross said the ASU Reopening Guide represents weeks of collaboration between the University’s leadership and campus department heads, as well as consultations with federal, state and local health officials.
“Our primary concern is the health and safety of those who work, live and learn at this University. Our staff is working diligently to ensure that the campus is ready academically and physically to receive our students when they return in the fall. We have continued to move forward with online and alternative delivery methods for instruction through the summer session; but we are looking forward to being able to welcome students back ‘home’ to ASU in August,” said Ross.
Ross said the current plan is to have students move into residence halls starting on August 8.
“Students and employees should be prepared for changes when we reopen for traditional classes,” said Ross. “We will abide by CDC guidelines related to social distancing and sanitization of buildings, work space and classrooms. We will also be a 'Mask Mandatory' campus, which is our term for requiring masks or face coverings in public and common spaces across the campus. A number of other safety measures will be in place as we emphasize our new motto: Stay Aware. Stay Safe. Stay Hornet Strong.”
