ASU to Host a Variety of Summer Camps

From academics to sports and fitness to self-enrichment, Alabama State University’s 2019 summer camp schedule offers something for everyone.
 
SPORTS CAMPS

Summer Cheer Camp - June 1 - 2
This exciting camp will be held on campus, June 1 - 2, at Lockhart Gymnasium, beginning each day at 10a.m. and ending at 2:30 p.m. This event will provide instructional cheer to Junior High and High School squads only.  Check-in for the clinic will begin @ 9:30a.m. on June 2nd.The cost of camp is $60 per participant, which includes the camp, t-shirt, and snacks. Freda Freeman-Jackson Division I Basketball Camp – June 17-20
Cost is $125, including a $25 non-refundable application fee. Campers receive instruction in fundamental skills, team concepts and principles of sportsmanship. Each camper will receive a T-shirt and is guaranteed individual and team instruction on fundamentals, and daily awards. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Lewis Jackson Division I Basketball Camp – June 10-13
Cost is $125, including a $25 non-refundable application fee. Campers receive instruction in fundamental skills, team concepts and principles of sportsmanship. Hornet Prospect Camp –  June 15 - 16
Cost is $250 per student. Boys in the 9th -12th grade are eligible to attend. This camp is designed to give the high school baseball player exposure playing in front of college coaches. Coaches from several different levels of college baseball will be present to help evaluate and instruct. The main purpose of the event is to evaluate players. Offensive, Defensive, and Pitching instruction will also be given. For more information, contact ASU Baseball at 334-229-5600.

Football Skills Camp – June 7 & July 12
Cost $30 per camper. Only 9th - 12th graders  are eligible to attend.The camp is a position-specific camp. Campers will participate in on-the-field practice sessions including agility work, individual drills with Alabama State coaches, 1 on 1 drills, meetings with coaching staff, and more.The camp will begin at 5  p.m. on Friday, June 9 & July 12  at The ASU Stadium. Pound the Rock OL/DL Camp/ 7 on 7 Team Camp.  – June 25 happy camper
Only 9th - 12th graders are eligible to attend event.The cost is $150 for 1 team (15 per TEAM) and $250 for 2 teams OL/DL $25 per player with team. For more information, call the football office at 334-229-4444.
 
THEATRE CAMPS
All payments for each theatre camp listed below must be made by money orders only. No cash or checks. Each camp will take place at the Leila Barlow Theatre, located at the corner of North University Drive and South Jackson Street. T.A.P.S. (Theatre Artist Performance School) – June 3 - June 15
This camp is designed for children ages six to 12. It scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The cost, $325 per child, will include lunch, snacks and a T-shirt. 

TTI (Technical Theatre Initiative) – June 10 - 29
The camp is designed to give participants ages 15  to 18 firsthand experience with the basics of costumes, lights, set design, entertainment law, sound videography, photography, editing, stage management and life skills, to include dressing for success, speech and diction, as well as interview, ethics and interpersonal communication. The camp is daily Monday through Friday. Cost is $215.

Camp 3T (Teaching Through Theatre) –  June 23 - 29
The residential camp, created for teenagers 13-18, offers classes in acting, singing, dancing and oral interpretation. The cost for the camp is $375 per child, which will cover room and board in an ASU dormitory, a snack, three meals, and a t-shirt.

GIFTED- Giving Individual Freedom to Express Diversity. July 8-12
This is a Day Camp for ages 13-21 that meets on Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday for one weeks for individuals with special needs.  Students participate in acting, singing and dancing. The registration costs for the camp is $260. 

OTHER CAMPS

Summer Kids/Youth College Adventure Program (SKYCAP) – Session 1 June 3- 21 Session 2 July 8-26
A variety of academic and self-enrichment programs are offered at various locations, times and costs. Designed for 1st- through 12th-graders, courses are offered in reading/phonics, writing, English, social studies, mathematics, sciences, study skills, algebra, geometry, computers, swimming and more. Cost -- Full Day: $425 per child, per session, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; Half Day: $300 per child, per session, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. , Monday through Friday. Summer Band Camp – June 9-15 
Designed for 8th through 12th-grade students, the camp provides clinics and exciting activities for bands, flag corps, twirlers, drum majors, majorettes and directors. The cost is $385 for the week. For more information, call 334-229-4289.

ASPIRE Head-Start Camp – June 17 - July 18
Cost is $225 per child. This camp focuses on study skills, organization skills and social skills for students in grades 6 through 12. Community professionals will educate and inspire students in a variety of academic and extracurricular activities. Students will participate in daily motivational activities, educational workshops and exciting weekly field trips. Hours: 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
