Members of Hornet Nation are asked to show their school pride and their great love for ASU during the global initiative known as Giving Tuesday. On November 30, the University will join with other non-profit organizations around the country in an effort to engage and accelerate giving among their supporters.
“We are extremely excited to offer this wonderful opportunity for our supporters to engage with the University through giving,” said Audrey Parks, ASU’s Annual Giving Coordinator in the Office of Development. “ASU is a wonderful investment not only for our alumni, but for anyone else who is interested in advancing educational excellence and providing support for young people who are focused on success.”
On Giving Tuesday, philanthropy is the order of the day. According to the website, Giving Tuesday “is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.” In the United States, the event is celebrated annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Since 2016, it has grown to become a billion dollar, one-day international effort.
“The one thing we know is that ASU stakeholders love this University. On November 30, we are asking supporters to put their money where their hearts are and give to support University initiatives,” Parks said.
For ASU, Giving Tuesday is the platform for the launch of the University’s new giving brand—“iCommit.”
“We’re asking Hornet Nation, which includes all of our stakeholders, to commit to support ASU at every level. In Development, we like to say that we’re asking for your Time, Talent, Treasure and Trust. Within this statement is an opportunity for everyone to commit to ASU in some fashion. Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity to say ‘I Commit’ in a very tangible way,” Parks added.
Parks urges donors to use Giving Tuesday as one way and one day of giving to the University; however, she said ASU organizers hope that the initiative will spark a spirit of generosity that continues throughout the years.
“Of course, we cannot stop with one day. O’ Mother Dear deserves our commitment on that day and every day,” she added.
