Alabama State Student Chosen to Participate in National Television Game Show!

A Presidential Scholar at Alabama State University and president of the University’s Honda Campus All-Star Team, knows her heritage and believes that she is ready to illustrate that when she competes in Bounce TV’s “Black College Quiz Game Show,” which pits Historically Black College and University (HBCU) college students from across the country against one another in challenges that test the contestants’ knowledge of African-American history.  

Endia Harris, an ASU senior and political science major from Panera, Ala., will travel to Atlanta on Jan. 10-12 with her coach for the taping of the TV show hosted by radio host, actor, and artist Nephew Tommy.

Endia is one of eight HBCU students who will participate in the four-part, half-hour syndicated series, which has featured more than 50 HBCU schools since its inception and awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships.

This is the first year that ASU has had a student participating in the event.

Unlike previous shows, the format changed from teams to individual competition this year, but that’s OK with Endia.  

“I don’t feel additional pressure being by myself,” Endia said. “If anything, I feel like it gives me more time to prepare because I only have to worry about my individual preparation.”

A $5,000 JACKPOT IS AT STAKE FOR THE WINNER

The “Jeopardy!”- style show’s questions will focus on a variety of historical and current facts about black politics, media, superheroes and pioneers, as well as black culture's contributions to art, music, fashion, civil rights, business, education, media, technology, science and sports.  Endia’s specialty categories are pop culture and anything from celebrity news to celebrity history, as well as music.

Endia hopes to emerge from the competition not only with bragging rights, but as the grand-prize winner with a $5,000 scholarship.

“I’m very excited and honored to appear on the show,” Endia said. “I’m looking forward to representing Alabama State University and I think it’s going to be an amazing experience.”

Dr. Cynthia Harris, director of ASU’s W.E.B. Du Bois Honors Program, said she is equally excited about Endia’s upcoming participation in the competition.

"We are very proud of Endia and know she will represent ASU well,” said Harris, who will accompany Endia on the trip as her coach. “I selected Endia for the competition because she has proven herself as a strong competitor and serves as president of ASU's Honda Team, as well as having a lot of experience with the scholars bowl. Endia is the most professional student that I have ever encountered in my 20-plus years of teaching at ASU.  She is an outstanding student.”

The Bounce TV’s “Black College Quiz Game Show” featuring Endia Harris will broadcast nationally on Bounce TV and several local stations later in the year.
