7th Annual MLK Community Celebration, Jan. 16

Alabama State University will co-sponsor the seventh annual historic community-wide celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Saturday, Jan. 16, broadcast on WSFA-TV 12 at 6 p.m. CST. The theme of the event is “Because of them, I am.”
The event, which is a mixture of music and drama, will feature the MLK Interfaith Community Choir and the ASU Dramatic Guild and BFA Dance Company.
Performances will be broadcast live on WSFA-TV 12 at 6 p.m.
Also during event, a number of individuals will receive the Beloved Community Award, which commends residents for their exemplary work, leadership and commitment in building the “beloved community.”
The goal of the community-wide MLK Celebration is to continue a much-needed dialogue around the teaching of tolerance, unity and peace in the Montgomery area.
The event is sponsored by Alabama State University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, Troy University and Friends of The Theatre.
