One Day Camps/Workshops

ASU Prosthetics and Orthotics Workshop (CLOSED)

Participants will attend a one-day career readiness workshop to learn more about the Prosthetics and Orthotics profession. GU students will have and participate in hands on learning stations focused on prosthesis assembly and orthotic impressions. Students will interact with individuals with amputation to learn from Prosthetic and Orthotic experts and professionals.

ASU Occupational Therapy Workshop

Participants will attend a one-day career readiness workshop to learn more about the Occupational Therapy profession. GU students will have and participate in hands on activities focused on physical assessment, adaptive equipment, and developmental milestones. Students will complete occupational profiles and learn from Occupational Therapy experts and professionals.

ASU Physical Therapy Workshop

Participants will attend a one-day career readiness workshop to learn more about the Physical Therapy profession. GU students will have an introduction to the field of physical therapy and discuss the purpose of physical therapy, the roles, and responsibilities of PT’s, the work settings, and academic requirements to attend physical therapy school. Students can look forward to hands on instruction lead by Physical Therapy experts and professionals.

ASU Engineering Camp

These workshops will help students from the Montgomery Public Schools System by assisting them with developing problem-solving skills to learn the basic scientific principles of engineering. Students will also learn to apply the engineering design cycle to solve problems in a team setting.

ASU Saturday STEM Academy

The Saturday STEM Academy will assist students from the Montgomery Public Schools System by providing a monthly STEM enrichment camp. The Saturday STEM Academy will provide hands-on STEM activities and discipline related materials for its participants. Students will work with undergraduate and graduate students and STEM faculty members will conduct the camp.

Multi Day Camps

ASU Health Information Management Camp

This weeklong camp will engage GEAR UP students in the life of Health Information Management professionals. Students will learn the importance of collecting, analyzing health data for primary and secondary inquiry, identify the key departments within an acute care facility, and understand the importance of the electronic health record, interoperability, pharmacology and research in healthcare. They will have the opportunity to visit an acute care hospital and learn from HIM professionals.

ASU iCSTEM Summer Camp

The ASU iCSTEM Camp gives students the opportunity to connect classwork with engaging, hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Students will be provided with exciting experiences that include forensic

science, pre-engineering, life and health sciences. Campers also gain skills and knowledge regarding English and writing.

ASU Visual and Performing Arts Camp

The ASU Visual and Performing Arts Camp will provide classes, workshops, and hands-on learning experiences designed to foster cultural and intellectual growth through creative and performing arts.

Music Offerings will include specific classes:

Library Scavenger Hunts (musical themes)

Theatre & Dance will combine rotating daily classes toward the creation of a 45-minute performance at the end of the GEAR UP Camp week.

  • Technical Theatre (lighting, sound, scenic design, costuming, videography, editing)

ASU iCan Code and iCan Cultivate Camp

iCan Code and iCan Cultivate Change Summer Camp Program will each provide a one-week course aimed to support and empower middle school grades 7 and 8 students by igniting curiosity and developing technology confidence through future-focused learning experiences. The program will offer engaging and hands-on activity-based workshops that provide students with the technical skills needed. The program will also focus on the development of transferable strategies that will travel with students far beyond summer.

iCan Code Camp is a week-long summer learning opportunity for rising 7th-grade students. We will explore Swift Coding Language through Apple's Everyone Can Code curriculum and the Playgrounds app. Students will investigate how coding can be used to solve community problems, potential careers, and learn the basics of Swift coding language.

iCan Cultivate Change Camp is a week-long summer learning opportunity for rising 8th-grade students. We will dive into the Everyone Can Create curriculum to spend the week learning about cultivating change in our community through technology, social justice, and local organizations. Students will engage in a challenge-based learning experience.

The iCan Code and Cultivate Change Summer Camp Program offered during the summer semester will cover the following topics:

  • Swift Playgrounds and Swift Coding

Project 2 Uplift Camp

Project 2 Uplift, Inc. will provide a four-week summer camp that will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning 06/07/2022 with and end date of 06/30/2022.Students will participate in activities that will foster problem-solving/critical thinking skills, social emotional intelligence, effective communication, team building, technology, and workforce skills. They will also engage students in learning activities relevant to financial literacy (budgeting and saving).

Tie & Doll (All DOLLed Up / All TIEd Up Workshops)

Tie and Doll’s objective is to mentor young men and women and build their self-esteem, empower them to lead courageously, give generously, and enrich themselves culturally. Mentoring connects a young person to personal growth and development, and social and economic opportunity so that they can make intelligent choices and be a positive influence intheir respective communities.

 

The All DOLLed Up Workshop is a series of interactive classes thatteach young women how to dress for success, build confidence,         andmake responsible choices that will prepare them for the real world. Once these young women have mastered these skills, they will be rewarded with a timeless, classic scarf (in which they will learn to wear various ways) and t-shirt to take home to claim DOLLed Up status. The week will conclude with a photo shoot and fashion show!

 

The All TIEd Up Workshop is a series of interactive classes that teach young men how to dress for success, build confidence, and make responsible choices that will prepare them for the real world. Once these young men have mastered these skills, they will be rewarded with a necktie (in which they will learn how to tie) and t-shirt to take home to claim TIEd Up status.  The week will conclude with a photo shoot and the All TIEd Up Luncheon!

ASU COBA Whiz Teens Camp - CANCELLED

Seedling Youth Entrepreneur Training Program will provide a course aimed to support and empower middle school grades 7 and 8 interested in entrepreneurship. The program will offer engaging and activity-based workshops that provide participants with the basic technical skills needed a start their own business in Alabama. Youth will learn about the different types of business entities, licenses/permits, how to strategically market their services/products, the importance of networking and communication, social skills, how to manage finances (personal/business), the importance of access to capital and credit, and the creation of their individualized business plan and resume.

Youth that participates in this program is innovative, creative, community-oriented, hardworking, dreamers, and possibly entrepreneurs in their own respect. The training will help magnify this potential by connecting youth to resources and programs to create long-term entrepreneurs.

The Seedling Youth Entrepreneur Training Program offered during the summer semester will cover the following topics:

YMCA Achievers Camp

The Achievers summer program is a four-week learning experience designed to engage students in a standards-based curriculum and fun enrichment opportunities that will bridge the achievement gap during the summer. The participants will take place in a supportive environment that provides daily motivational affirmations, a book study, academic suppo11, college preparation seminars, swimming, and visual arts. Each week the students will engage in:

Auburn University Summer Academy

The Auburn University GEAR UP will be a six-day residential summer program for rising 7th and 8th graders held from July 18 – July 23. The program intends to enhance college readiness among students in an effort to increase their exposure to higher education coursework and environments. Students will participate in mini-courses in core subject areas (mathematics, science, and English) as well as attend sessions on campus resources.

Tuskegee University Summer Academy

Tuskegee University proposes a 10-day summer Academy for 20 students. At the Academy, students will receive deep STEM experiences in the areas of Life Science and Aerospace Engineering. Students will be engaged in hands-on learning in areas that are not taught in their pre-College curriculum to increase their overall readiness to major in STEM disciplines in college.
