Research Infrastructure in Minority Institutions
At
Alabama State University
The RIMI Program has an enormous impact on the institution as a whole and particularly on biomedical research and training at Alabama State University. The research support provided by this program aids faculty in initiating their independent research programs and in fostering and facilitating the career goals of the research faculty. RIMI funds provide the resources and technical assistance needed to maintain an environment for developing and cultivating minority students to become outstanding scientists.
The RIMI Program will strengthen the overall academic and research environment at ASU. The Program will provide release-time and other support to faculty to conduct biomedical research. The Program contributes significantly to the improved instructional climate for students through better facilities, equipment and resources. The Program also provides opportunities for the interaction of ASU faculty and students with research scientists from collaborating institutions. RIMI help to increase the pool of academically prepared minority students for graduate and professional schools. RIMI will assist in the recruitment of qualified faculty members in biomedical sciences. This program serves to motivate other faculty members to get actively involved in biomedical research, train students and publish research papers in refereed journals. This program also encourages other faculty members to write research proposals and acquire funding from other government agencies and private foundations. The RIMI program creates an opportunity for ASU to gain greater visibility and recognition in the academic and scientific arena at large and in the surrounding community.
