Deadline Extended to Register for Michael A. Bush Golf Tournament

Author: Tina Joly

Release Date: Jul 27, 2012

ASU alumnus Michael A. Bush (’85) is living by the adage that it is better to give than to receive by giving back to his alma mater instead of receiving gifts for his 50th birthday.

Michael BushMichael A. Bush is inviting relatives, friends, alumni and supporters to”play golf with a purpose” for his 50th birthday celebration.

Bush, the CEO of Bush Enterprises Inc., an engineering, technical services and manufacturing firm headquartered in Orlando, graduated from ASU’s College of Business Administration in 1985.

Instead of a traditional birthday bash, Bush is hosting the Michael A. Bush 50th Birthday Golf Tournament. All proceeds from the event will be donated to ASU’s Dennis and Annie Ruth Bush Scholarship Fund, which is named for Bush's parents.

Bush said he wanted to host the tournament because ASU laid a foundation for his success.

“Sharing my 50th birthday with the University by providing scholarships to benefit students is my way of giving back and supporting the legacy of Ole’ Mother Dear,” Bush said.

Zillah Fluker, ASU’s associate vice president for Development, said Bush has tapped into one of the many unique ways of giving back to ASU.

“The Development Office is always excited to support this kind of fundraising effort from our alumni,” Fluker said. “We hope Mr. Bush’s event will inspire other alumni to consider creative ways to support their alma mater.”

The Michael A. Bush 50th Birthday Golf Tournament will be held on August 10 at Shingle Creek Golf Club and Resort in Orlando. The cost for a four-person team is $300, which includes greens fees, cart and four luncheon tickets. The cost for individual golfers is $75 and includes greens fees, cart and one luncheon ticket. A Par 50 Celebration and Scholarship Reception is $50. The deadline to register has been extended to August 2.
