ASU Offers Free Tax Preparation Assistance

Alabama State University is offering free tax assistance for Montgomery residents who earned $50,000 or less during 2012.

Montgomery-area taxpayers who need help preparing their tax returns will be able to turn to Alabama State University’s College of Business Administration (COBA) for free assistance this tax season.

Tax preparation officials will be available each Saturday through April 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The remaining Saturdays include Feb. 16 and 23; March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30; and April 6 and 13.

Services will be offered in rooms 110 and 112 in the ASU College of Business Administration building, which is located on North University Dr., across from the WVAS radio tower.

Appointments are not needed for the Saturday sessions.

All taxpayers with an annual income of $50,000 or less are eligible. Those receiving help must bring the following items with them:

  • A picture identification and Social Security card.
  • Birth certificates and social security cards for all dependents.
  • All wage and earning statements, including W-2’s.
  • Copies of last year's state and federal returns.
