Customer Service Training

At Alabama State University, we know that there are three basic human needs at the very core of exceptional customer service: to be treated with respect; to be listened to; and to have a sense of choice and control. ASU is committed to providing exceptional customer service for all of its constituents.

The Center for Perpetual Training and Protocol (CPTP) plays an integral role in achieving exceptional customer service through the following activities:

  • Providing customer service training for all students, faculty and staff
  • Implementing a system to recognize individuals who have provided exceptional customer service

There are five customer service standards that ASU must exemplify to transform the current state of customer service. These five standards are:

  1. Exhibit a positive attitude – focus on what you can do, not what you can’t
  2. Be knowledgeable – understand your job and ASU
  3. Be professional – you represent ASU in and out of work
  4. Communicate clearly – speak and listen effectively
  5. Be accountable – take ownership and pride in all you do



CPTP is recommending a team of ASU employees be created to propose ways to best recognize individuals who provide exceptional customer service. Please stay tuned for updates!
