ASU’s C-STEM to Host 2018 Annual Research Symposium

Alabama State University’s College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (C-STEM) will host the 2018 Annual Research Symposium on March 14-15 at the John Garrick Hardy Student Center. The theme of the symposium is "Toward Excellence in STEM Research." Attendees are invited to give talks or poster presentations about their recent research achievements, ongoing research projects and future research plans.

The symposium provides a platform and an exceptional opportunity for undergraduate, graduate and research scholars to share their research experience to a broader audience at ASU as well as other universities in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Tennessee. The symposium will inspire and motivate the students in their future STEM endeavors and enhance the collaborations among the faculty members in their respective fields.

During last year’s symposium, 76 abstracts were received from 38 research groups. The 153 authors of the presentations were from 21 institutions in nine states and two foreign countries.

There are several new features this year:

  • Accepted abstracts will be published in a peer-reviewed journal, Frontiers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Each abstract will be reviewed by two experts, and decision (accepted, revision required or rejection) will be based on the review reports and sent to authors as soon as possible.

  • Abstracts may include one figure/table, 1-5 references, and should have about 250 words. They should be in Microsoft Word and should be sent to Dr. Harvey Hou at Submission dates are December 1, 2017 - January 31, 2018. No abstracts will be accepted after January 31.

  • This year, 10 percent of the presentations will be given the Outstanding Student awards as judged by the Student Award Committee. The awards are divided into two categories (poster and oral presentations) at three levels (poster/Ph.D., master student and undergraduate).

  • Registration is required for each participant (one form per person). The registration fee is $20 for two days and $10 for one day. Student registration is free. Registered participants will receive the abstract book and program schedule. Free lunch boxes will be provided for registered participants. Non-registered participants will only receive the program schedule book.

For a minimum donation of $10 to the symposium,  donors’ names will appear in the program book, on the conference website and throughout the symposium area.
